12 Beers of Christmas with Der Braumeister
If you’ve been following our blog since the beginning, you know the inaugural series we started with and have continued every year is our Advent Beer Calendar where we drink a different Christmas beer every day in December. We’ve really fallen in love with some delicious holiday ales and also tried some ones we would rather forget about but regardless, these beers have come to hold a special place in our hearts. When we first heard about Der Braumeister’s 12 Beers of Christmas Tapping this event seemed right up our alley and we wanted in.
The 12 Beers of Christmas is an event that Der Brau puts on every year (for the past ten years) on the night before Thanksgiving. The beers are curated by Der Brau owner Jenn Wirtz (a.k.a. “The Beer Whisperer”) and includes ales, bocks and lagers from around the world. You can try them all in a flight and of course order some amazing German food to go along with it. This year there will even be a beer that’s an OHIO EXCLUSIVE to Der Brau! Additionally, Der Brau will also be commemorating the commemorate the 200th Anniversary of Stille Nacht, the famous Christmas carol known as Silent Night.
The 2018 12 Beers Lineup includes:
- Brauerei Schloss Eggenberg Samichlaus Classic Bier
- Brasserie d’Achouffe N’Ice Choueffe
- Samuel Smith Old Brewery Winter Welcome Ale
- Spoetzl Brewery Shiner Cheer
- Boulevard Brewing Co. Plaid Habit
- Brooklyn Brewery Black Chocolate Stout
- Brouwerij St. Bernardus Saint Bernardus Christmas Ale
- Brewery Huyghe Delirium Noel
- Brouwerij Corsendonk Corsendonk Christmas Ale
- Hofbräu München Delikater (Ohio Exclusive)
- Alaskan Cranberry Tart
- Revolution Brewing Fistmas
Our personal favorites from the event were St. Bernardus and Delirium Noel. Those are just always the delicious, classic, European Christmas ales. Broad really loved the Alaskan Cranberry Tart which was super refreshing and light. The Plaid Habit had a really unique taste that Beard couldn’t get enough of. And of course, Fistmas is always in our fridge during the holiday season. Unfortunately, we didn’t get to try the Hofbräu München Delikater because it was delayed in getting to Der Brau because of the snow. We hope to make it back to get a taste!
We went to the Oktoberfest beer event at Der Brau where they had 10 different Oktoberfest beers on tap. We did a flight of all of them and ate some delicious food and really enjoyed our time there, just like we always do when we’re at Der Brau. That’s the thing about Der Brau, Jenn and crew really make you feel like you’re family. It feels like you’re at Grandma’s house whether you’re eating paprikas or schnitzel or enjoying a few beers at the bar.
Mark you calendars for Wednesday, November 21. Reservations are required because this event will sell out! Reserve your spot by calling 216-671-6220 and receive an early Christmas gift from Der Brau, a retro beer glass or mug filled with candy for your table!
