Canandaigua “Unwrap the Trail” Holiday Wine Pack
If you read our latest travel post, you know that the Finger Lakes is one of our favorite places to visit. Every time we go, we pretty much stay around Seneca Lake but there are so many more places to explore. At the top of our list to visit next time are the wineries on Canandaigua Lake. Luckily, we received the “Unwrap the Trail” Holiday Wine Pack so we could sample the wines from the comfort of our own home! Come join us on our virtual tour!
The Canandaigua Lake Wine Trail features 30 miles of Finger Lakes wine and food experiences right in the heart of the country’s top wine region. In addition to wine and food, the area offers beautiful nature areas to explore, a historic downtown to walk through, and so many other activities. If you can’t make a trip to the Finger Lakes for the holidays then you can experience the wineries at home with the “Unwrap the Trail” Holiday Wine Pack. The pack features ten wines (two from each of the wineries), and branded wine trail glasses. This is the perfect gift for any wine lover or travel buff.
We decided to do something fun with our wine pack so did a little Christmas themed wine tasting. Here’s what we thought would pair best with these wines for the holiday:
2019 Love by Inspire Moore
This wine is a semi-dry Riesling with notes of apricot, peaches and honeysuckle. This is a good “wrapping presents” wine cause it’s light and cheery, but will still help you maintain focus and not waste too much tape.
2013 Sparkling Cuvée by Song Hill Winery
A blend of chardonnay, cabernet franc and pinot noir. Bubbles! Always perfect for celebrating. Since we can’t celebrate in person, this would be perfect for virtually popping bottles while zooming with your friends and family.
Vergennes by Arbor Hill Grapery & Winery
A dry white with a smooth grapey finish. This would pair excellent with a post-holiday-dinner dessert like all those cookies your mom gave you too much of.
2017 Cabernet Franc by Heron Hill
A full bodied wine that has hints of clove and toasted wood, with jammy raspberry notes. This honestly makes us think of being snuggled up on the couch with eachother, candles lit, watching cheesy Christmas movies. And probably eating cheese. Lots of cheese.
Red Cat Dark by Hazlitt Red Cat Cellars
Red Cat is sweet and full bodied with jam and brown sugar spice flavors. This is light, but definitely sweet. It makes us think of baking Christmas cookies and listening to Christmas music. We like to think this is what Buster drank in “Arrested Development” the he thought he was drinking juice. Pro tip: try it over ice with club soda as a spritzer!
2019 Rhythm by Inspire Moore
This is a refreshing and light Grüner Jetliner and has notes of fresh lime and lemongrass. Perfect for a Christmas brunch! We’re thinking quiche, fresh fruit, bacon, and some sort of potato. Sub this for your your typical mimosa and invite us (when things are normal).
2015 Chardonnay by Song Hill Winery
Very noticeable hints of citrus peel and lemongrass. Anyone out there do Feast of the Seven Fishes? We don’t (please invite us!) but Beard’s family does celebrate Wigilia, which is a Polish tradition and is all starch and smoked fish. Basically, pair this with your lighter holiday fare and you’re golden.
Moscato by Arbor Hill Grapery & Winery
This is a lightly carbonated blend of riesling and Valvin Muscat grapes. Think of this as your traditional champs, a tad sweeter, and smaller bubbles. Great holiday morning beverage.
2017 Reserve Pinot Noir by Heron Hill
This pinot is full of warm spice aromas and cherry and plum flavors. A wine like this would pair perfectly with your hearty holiday dinner. Think roasts and hams.
Pink Cat by Hazlitt Red Cat Cellars
This is a sweet blush wine. It’s light, fruity and honestly, just really fun. This pairs well with playing with all the new toys received for the holidays!
