Cleveland Botanical Gardens

Like most people, we’ve been spending the majority of our time at home, trying to stay safe and healthy. Buuuuut, we admit there’s times where we feel a little stir crazy. We’ve been slowly heading out to patios and friends’ backyards but we’re still mostly at home. We needed a new “thing” that involved the outdoors, so we decided to check out the Cleveland Botanical Garden!

Here were our favorite spots from the beautiful grounds:

Herb Garden
The Herb Garden houses over 3,500 “useful plants.” When we they useful they mean that they can be used for EVERYTHING, including cooking, medicine and dye. They also have a variety of edible flowers. We love experimenting with herbs while we cook and it was super interesting to see things like garlic, catnip and others we use on a daily basis in their beautiful garden. (We don’t cook with catnip, that’s just for our kitties)

Japanese Garden
The Japanese Garden is the perfect place for reflection and zen. Complete with a tea garden, ornamental grasses, Japanese maples and many other beautiful plants, it’s equal parts picturesque and spiritual. The views of the garden are framed by posts and eaves, serving to focus the powers of meditation.

Glasshouse
The Glasshouse is a unique feature that houses plants (and animals) from the rainforest of Costa Rica and the desert of Madagascar. It has 350 specifies of exotic plants + animals in their natural habitats, showing how they interact with the climate in an intricate balance. We saw turtles, really interesting plants and TONS of butterflies. You really felt like you were in Costa Rica and Madagascar!

How They’re Keeping You Safe:

  • They set up a reservation system for members so everyone has enough space to wander and members receive priority admittance over general admission ticket buyers.
  • Mask requirements for all visitors both indoors and outdoors.
  • Hand sanitizer locations.
  • They have ELEVEN unique outdoor gardens to explore and enjoy the sunshine and fresh air. Plenty of space to enjoy the beauty of the gardens and socially distance.

The Cleveland Botanical Garden is a super safe and amazing place for people of all ages to learn, explore and play. It’s the perfect all day activity to enjoy with the family or even by yourself this summer and Fall.
