Date Night at The Glass Asylum
We made a personal goal this past year to be more open to trying new and different activities. So far, we’ve been mostly eating and drinking new things but we recently changed that. When the opportunity to try glass blowing at The Glass Asylum popped up we knew we had to try it. It just sounded like the fun and unique date night activity we’ve been looking for.
The Glass Asylum is located in Chagrin Falls, look at us getting out of our west side bubble (again)! It’s a very inviting, open, industrial studio. They have seven talented artists who will walk you through the process. If you’re a beginner like us then the “Experience Workshop” is for you. If you want a more intensive experience they also offer private lessons. You can also schedule a group workshop with your friends too. You then choose what type of glass piece you want to make. Examples include: vases, shot glasses, flowers etc. Beard decided to make a pint glass and Broad decided on a wavy bowl.
You definitely get to add your creative input in the project. You get to pick the color, size and shape of your piece. But the artist guiding you through the process handles the dangerous stuff for safety reasons. If you’re familiar with any of the artists who work there, you can even request to work with them. We worked with Dean and Bryan and they were both great!
Broad was a little apprehensive about glass blowing because she’s not crafty and honestly it seemed a bit dangerous. But there was nothing to fear because Dean and Bryan were so awesome, helpful and really made us feel safe. They also provide very clear workshop safety guidelines so you can be fully prepared for the experience. They let us do as much as we could and wanted to and they handled everything else. After you’re done making the piece it has to cool for at least two days before you can take it home.
In addition to working on your piece, you can eat and drink at the Glass Asylum. So that means you can really have a fun date night or girls night out. They have an array of beverages available such as beer, wine and of course water (it’s important to stay hydrated.) But you can also bring in your own food. M Italian is next door and they will provide food service and a server for you. We ate the Farmhouse pizza which had spinach, prosciutto, Pinot Noir onions, artichoke hearts and farm egg. It was so delicious and we scarfed it down, we really worked up an appetite!
We picked up our pieces a few days later and were so amazed how beautiful they turned out. We decided that our moms would appreciate having something we made, so we are gifting our pieces to them. If you’re having trouble thinking of a gift for someone this is the best idea because you’ll end up with something gorgeous, unique and hand made!
Thanks again for having us, Glass Asylum. We can’t wait to go back! Head to our Instagram for an exclusive giveaway!
*Disclosure: We were invited to attend a complimentary workshop experience at The Glass Asylum, along with food from M Italian, in exchange for our honest review. As always, all opinions are 100% our own.*
