Day 10 of the 6th Annual Advent-ure Calendar

Day 10: Working Class Brewery Snow Job Christmas Ale

Ok, no more cider surprises. Here’s another local brewery that we’ve recently been enjoying, especially their seltzers. They also make a real solid porter. Not much is listed about this beer except that it’s a Christmas ale “with hints of cinnamon, ginger, honey, all spice, clove and nutmeg.”

Reflections

Ben: This falls into that “typical spiced Christmas beer” category. I think it may have the largest variety of spices of any of them, though. It definitely tastes like a “kitchen sink” Christmas Ale. How does it stack up against the other local fair? It’s up there. I think this finishes a touch drier and more bitter than the others, but it’s still nice. I’d love to try this in a line up with the other local guys to see what’s actually my favorite. Working Class is a really, really solid brewery though, so I’ll continue to try this in years to come along with their other brews.

Julia: I’m a fan of Working Class so I was happy to see them on the list. I get a lot of honey, which I’m not thrilled with but I think most people would enjoy it. It’s full of all the spices but it’s not overpowering. It’s definitely drier and perhaps a little more bitter than traditional Christmas ales but it’s still good. I wouldn’t actively seek this out but I wouldn’t turn it down. As always, I’m happy to support local breweries!

Adam: Much like Andrew Glouberman of Big Mouth, this has a great can. This reminds me of Cleveland christmas ales and that’s a compliment. It’s well balanced and boozy. It makes me want to sit at a brewery and get kinda buzzed with my friends. I miss friends. And breweries. And brewery pups.

Alex: Working Class Snow Job is a pretty standard Christmas Ale.  It’s warming and I can taste spices with a touch of honey.  This is very easy for me to drink, and doesn’t feel too heavy or boozy.  I wouldn’t say anything particularly stands out about it, but I do like it and would definitely drink it again.  Also, extra credit for a very fun can.

Scott: First off, best holiday beer name.  Hands down winner.  Snow Job?  Killed it.   The beer itself is really good, it’s not too spicy, not too sweet and has that warm Christmas ale flavor I love.  It’s got a little bit of a funky aftertaste, but half a can in and I didn’t notice it anymore.  I think the honey and nutmeg stand out most to me and will definitely add this one to my holiday beer rotation!

Christa: Snow Job does a wonderful job!! I really like this one. Scott mentioned a bit of an odd after taste which I hadn’t noticed but as I kept drinking, there’s a little something off. It’s still great, even with that. It would be exceptional on draft—stares off in the distance woefully—and I hope I get the chance to try it that way. Just an all around solid Christmas ale with a great name. A solid snow job all the way to completion.

Tony: This a Cleveland brewery that I have not heard of before, Working Class Brewery. Definitely cool that they’re right here in Cleveland. I’m sure they have some good beers and I want to try more from them, but this particular one is just off. It just does not taste right. I know thats not a very eloquent review but thats how I would describe it, it just doesnt taste right. Its heavy on the spice and not much else. Again, props for being here in Cleveland, I’m absolutely willing to try something else from them but I dont recommend their Christmas Ale.

Megan: This beer boasts all of those classic holiday flavors like cinnamon, nutmeg and all spice  but in my opinion it’s too potent. You get hit in the face with spices and fizz. If you’re going for that flavor profile, I’d suggest Sweater Party over this one. I’ll definitely give it points for a clever name and fun can. I’ll be interested to hear what everyone else says, but yeah, not a fan.

Brad: Another local brewery making the list this year! I’ve only been to Working Class once and enjoyed their beers for the most part. Snow Job is your typical Christmas Ale from this area. It doesn’t stand out in any way, bad or good. It’s just, fine. I think the ginger is a little overpowering and for some reason, the beer tastes syrupy to me.  I’m not sure I’d rush to the brewery for first tap but I’d drink it again if presented an opportunity.

Heather: There’s quite a kick of spice in this one. The first sip is intense and I hesitated taking a second. But this seems to get slightly better the more I try it, although the strong ginger coming through makes it a partridge short of a pear tree for me. I’ll give it another try next year. Although, side note: I burped and my 4-year-old daughter told me my mouth smelled good, so they’re doing something right? Maybe?🤷🏼‍♀️
