Day 22 of the 5th Annual Advent-ure Calendar
Day 22: Goodwood Shoot Your Eye Out Milk Stout
A new beer from a new brewery on the list, YES! We tend to get super excited when we come across a double whammy. We know nothing about this beer other than it had a great name. From the brewery: “Ohhhh fudge! Only I didn’t say fudge. This robust winter milk stout is brewed with Cholaca—the liquefied form of cocoa. This brew features a strong, toasty chocolate flavor and aroma with lactose (milk sugar) providing a sweet finish and big bodied beer. This big boozy adult Ovaltine will have you saying whoopee, a zeppelin!”
Reflections
Beard & Broad
Beard: This is a great cold weather beer. Just a classic, chocolatey milk stout. It’s on the thicker side, so I could prob only have 2 of these in a night, but every winter season needs a handful of thick stouts peppered in. This would fit right in with my rotation. There’s nothing really super special or anything that makes this beer stand out against other milk stouts, but it’s still a nice beer with no flaws. I’d be happy to find this in my fridge again.
Broad: I’m a fan of milk stouts but usually I only want to drink one, maybe two because I’m not really into the sweeter, malty beers. But this one is pretty good. It’s definitely chocolatey and sweet, but not too sweet. It also tastes boozy to me. It smells warm, delicious and chocolatey. I would enjoy another one of these in the future while cozied up on the couch.
Adam & Alex
Adam: I really love this beer and I’m glad we discovered it this year. I agree that it’s a wonderfully smoked chocolate flavor and bonus points for having my favorite can of the year. Definitely has big Griswold vibes.
Alex: I think this is another first time beer for me, and I like this stout as well. It’s a bit smokey and I can taste a hint of the chocolate. This is definitely another beer that would be great by the fireside. You’ll shoot your eye out!
Scott & Christa
Scott: A chocolate milk stout is great. A holiday themed chocolate milk stout is fantastic!! The Goodwood Shoot Your Eye Out Chocolate Milk Stout tastes like most other milk stouts, but with that extra chocolate kick from the cocoa nibs. This beer is a winner for me both in taste and in can design. So far, this seasons Adven-ture has been the best yet!
Christa: I really enjoy this beer. Almost as much as Scott enjoys this beer who keeps asking if I am going to finish my half. Chocolate milk stouts are a dime a dozen, some are wonderful, some aren’t. This is really good and I’d definitely drink it again. It’s hits all the right spots and delivers on everything it promises. Not a stand out for me, but a good beer I’d add to my list for 2020.
Tony & Megan
Tony: I’ve been looking forward to trying this one and it did not disappoint. I love porters and stouts so when I see “chocolate milk stout” on the list I’m more than likely gonna be into it. You definitely get the chocolate in this one, but it didn’t seem overly sweet and at 30 IBU it has just a slight bitterness that works really well. It doesn’t have really any of the traditional holiday spices so if you’re looking for that you won’t find it here but its pretty delicious. Shoot Your Eye Out Chocolate Milk Stout” is a great name and I thought the taste was just as good. This will likely land among my favorites from this year.
Megan: Yassss! This is a nice, dark, rich and well balanced chocolate stout. I don’t think I’ve had anything from this brewery before but I’m glad this one turned up in our list! This reminds me of the cookies and milk stout from noble beast. It’s got a great balance of flavor and not too sweet or heavy for a stout. I could definitely have a couple of these while baking cookies.
Brad & Heather
Brad: I Enjoy Milk Stouts
This milk stout is really good
I need to find more
Heather: Alcoholic dessert. It’s a good solid chocolate stout, and if I were a bigger fan of stouts, I’d drink it a lot. As is, I’m middle-of-the-road, so I’ll definitely indulge occasionally. I’ll give it a heartfelt thumb-and-a-half up.
