Day 7 of the 4th Annual Advent-ure Calendar

Day 7: Market Garden Brewery Frosty

Pic: Scott & Christa

As we were gathering Christmas beers for the list (remember each couple has to get six different beers), it was becoming increasingly difficult to find Ohio Christmas ales. Apparently there’s like, exactly 25 Christmas beers packaged in Ohio. So, one couple decided to pick up this beer not knowing if it was a seasonal or if it was a year-round beer, but thought Frosty sounded holiday-ish. We know it’s not a Christmas ale but it has a holiday name and is from Ohio so we are counting it.

“Frosty leads off with an exhilarating aroma of lime and tangerine. Spicy Belgian yeast character plays with the limes’ tartness leading to a dry, quenching finish that pushes further into new flavor territory thanks to the judicious use of diverse ingredients sure to keep you feeling Frosty.”

Reflections

Beard & Broad
Beard: Leave it to our sly friends Scott and Christa to submit this as a Christmas beer. I’ll let it slide on wordplay and creativity alone. This is definitely more of a warm weather refresher, but the subtle spices from the witbier base do remind me a bit of winter. That’s kind of where it stops as the lime and tangerine take over. I do enjoy this though. And the pastel can is adorable.

Broad: If we were being sticklers with this calendar we probably should have made Scott & Christa get another beer since we knew this wasn’t a Christmas/Winter beer but we really admired their creativity with this one. This is what I call the perfect “patio beer.” I could drink many of these on a hot summer day. It’s light, citrusy and basically everything a Christmas beer is not. I actually enjoy the slight change of pace for a minute.

Adam & Alex
Adam: I enjoy what the wonderful person who picked this did with their take on making this selection. Words are fun. Obviously this lime and tangerine wit beer isn’t a traditional holiday beer but ya know what, I enjoy it. It conjures up thoughts of 7 months from now when we’ll drink this on a patio. That thought is something we all need during an Ohio winter. If you don’t like spiced or heavy beers this is certainly a good idea. It’s like blue moon but not terrible. Plus a lime.

Alex: Frosty the Snowman, I get why the selection was made! I do really like this wit beer, but it does not scream holiday to me, it’s light and citrusy and delicious, and reminds me of patio drinking in the summer. I will definitely drink this one again after Frosty really does melt away.

Scott & Christa
Scott: I’m sure this will be a common theme in reviews tonight, but there is almost nothing wintery about this beer, other than its Frosty name. But I’m in a good mood and I really like wit beers so bring it on!  It’s a very very light beer with hints of citrus that is a pleasant departure from the dark wintery beers. I wouldn’t say it’s my favorite of this style, but I wouldn’t give it the cold shoulder either.

Christa:  Wow, this may be my favorite beer on our advent-ure thus far. After yesterday’s very sweet Belgian, it’s nice to get a tart one. I love the citrus notes, the tangerine and lime together makes for a crisp and somewhat dry, but still refreshing, taste. I found myself wanting more once it was gone and that’s the kind of beer you hope for. It’s probably not the most Holiday-y beer but when all the others start to blend together, this one’s a stand out. Drink it out of a frosty mug if you’re feeling festive.

Tony & Megan
Tony: Is it Christmas in July?! Hey with the weather being as cold as it is, I dont mind a little reminder of Summer amongst the holiday beers. It’s light, crisp and refreshing. I could drink a bunch of these on a patio. Good reminder of warm summer days! 😎

Megan:  Frosty is very light and refreshing. This makes me feel like I’m on a beach instead of freezing my buns off. It is citrusy so it fits well into the Christmas collection. Easily drinkable and fun, this is a solid choice.
