Finding the Perfect Hair Formula with Formulate Co.

Normally, you see us talk about what we’re eating or drinking or where we’re traveling. But, we have a lot of other things on our mind too. One thing that Broad is constantly thinking about is hair care. Yes, for reals. She has long, thick, color-treated hair that needs a lot of love. Her hair gets tired of shampoos/conditioners quickly and she’s constantly on the lookout for something that won’t break the bank, will feel great on her hair and something she can enter into a committed relationship with. When Formulate reached out and asked if Broad wanted to try their shampoos and conditioner, both of which would be specifically engineered just for her, she was immediately intrigued.

We know this is something we don’t usually talk about on the blog, but stick with us. This is something that I’m sure a lot of you can relate to. Plus you guys seem to like when we get personal and talk about stuff other than food and booze. Also hair care is SUPER important, we all do (or should do) SOMETHING to take care of our hair. Broad is taking over this post and going to talk in first person, just to make it easier, sound good? Good. Where to learn about hair growth products that work and where to purchase it? The Formulate Package

What is Formulate?
To put it simply, Formulate is shampoo and conditioner that is specifically made just for you. It’s made by industry-leading chemists who take a scientific look at your hair’s unique characteristics and formulate your shampoo and conditioner based off their extensive list of ingredients. Formulate is preservative free, sulfate free, paraben free and cruelty free. It doesn’t have all that bad stuff, and instead is made of all the good stuff your hair is craving.

How do you Formulate?
You fill out an extensive questionnaire so the experts can get to know your hair wants and hair needs. The chemists then craft your shampoo and conditioner based on what your hair goals are. You also get to pick a fragrance, which was important to me because I don’t like sweet scents and was able to pick the PERFECT scent.

All my different Formulas!

Broad’s Hair
My hair has a lot going on. It (was) long, thick, not really straight and not really curly. It’s kind of naturally wavy, but not the kind of wavy where you wake up and walk out the door without doing anything to do. It’s also color treated and unruly. Phew. I usually wash it three times a week and I use a paraben free/sulfate free shampoo and conditioner. During the week I use a flat iron and on the weekend I will curl it. So there is usually some sort of heat tool being used on it every day. One of the main reason I was excited to try Formulate was because I was hoping that the formula would be able to address ALL or most of these concerns.
*Note: when I started this journey with Formulate I had super long hair. I recently cut it all off*

Broad’s Formula
After filling out the Formulate questionnaire, we figured out my hair goals were: anti-frizz, color protection, hydration, replenishment and manageability. These are exactly what I want to focus on with my hair right now. I was concerned if I would be able to easily change these goals in the future and yes, you can! On the app you can easily change your goals and hair concerns as you need. I also got to pick my scent which is Verdant: grass, lilies and eucalyptus. It smells heavenly!

Before and After (about 6 weeks of use)

The Results
The first formula I received didn’t work that well for me. Neither did the second, or the third one honestly. Say what?! You might not immediately find your perfect formula and that’s ok! Taking the hair quiz is the first step, but trying the product and then sending your feedback to Formulate is the most important part of the process. I told the Formulate team exactly what I didn’t like: my hair felt heavy and greasy when I used the first formula. They told me not to worry and they’d work on the next formula for me. The next two they sent felt better than the first but weren’t quite perfect yet. On the fourth, they nailed it!

Even Toby was interested!

After using the shampoo and conditioner consistently for a few weeks my hair felt great. My hair appeared healthy, soft and hydrated. They really hit my hair goals. Working with the Formulate team made the process easy and smooth. They were available when I needed them and were so helpful. If you’re ready to take your hair care to the next level, you need to try Formulate!
