Hop Tree Brewing + Hudson Restaurant Week
It’s been awhile since we’ve checked out a new brewery, adulting has kind of taking over all of our time (and money). So, when we were invited to visit Hop Tree Brewing and help spread the word about Hudson Restaurant Week we were super excited!
Hudson Restaurant Week
First, we want to take a moment and talk about this great event happening in Hudson. The inaugural Hudson Restaurant Week (HRW) will be held April 9th through April 13th. 25 local restaurants will be participating and they have 20 sponsors supporting them. Usually when you hear “restaurant week” you think: great deals at your favorite restaurants or now is the perfect time to try a new place! Well that’s true, but there’s something extra special about this week. They have teamed up with Hudson Food Pantry and a portion of all restaurant sales will be donated to help fight food insecurity in the community. Additionally, as an extra thanks to diners supporting these restaurants, random customers will be surprised with a $50 gift card throughout the week. Visit this link for more info and to check out all 25 participating restaurants.
Hop Tree Brewing
We don’t make it out to Hudson too often, but everyone knows we will travel for beer! The taproom, located at 1297 Hudson Gate Dr. Hudson, Ohio, is open Wednesday-Sunday serving not only hand-crafted beer but also delicious food. Hop Tree started merely as a home-brewing venture between friends Cory and Greg 13 years ago. In 2009 Cory completed the American Brewer’s Guild Craft Brewer’s Apprenticeship Program, then came business planning and more importantly, recipe development. Finally, they opened the brewery January of this year.
They have ten taps and will always be pouring the first three listed beers:
- Cuyahoga Brown Ale: made with cherry wood smoked malt.
- Hop Tree IPA: north east Ohio IPA.
- Golden Genesis: delicious, light golden ale
- Blanche de Belge: a citrusy Belgian Wit
- Cranberry Tart: Berliner Weisse sour made with cranberry puree and brown sugar.
- Bent Tree Brown: made with Bent Tree Coffee roasters coffee grounds.
- Deutscher Dunkel: Vienna style lager.
- Noctis IPA: black IPA with cirtrus hops.
- Mucca Nitro: a fusion of oatmeal and milk stout styles.
- U.K. Porter Nitro: English brown Porter.
Broad’s favorite was of course, the Cranberry Tart Ale. It was so light, delicious and only 3% ABV. It was so smooth, delicious and tart. The brown ales were so tasty too, and Broad normally does not care for those, but the Bent Tree had a delicious coffee note and the Cuyahoga Brown had a perfect smokey flavor.
Beard was really into the Belgian Wit. It had just the right amount of subtle spice notes and citrus bite. The Cranberry Tart Ale was also really refreshing, could definitely down a couple of those on a hot summer day. And like Broad he was pleasantly surprised by both brown ales.
The kitchen has a small menu and we like that because it helps them focus on food quality. We tried the hopped pickled eggs and they were crazy delicious. They were very simple, but had a great deal of tasty hop flavor. We also had the jumbo pretzel which was the size of our heads and it came with beer cheese and cream cheese butter chive spread.
If you happen to find yourself in Hudson, be sure to check out Hop Tree for some solid brew and great snacks.
*Disclosure: We were asked by Hudson Restaurant Week to promote the event and we were compensated for our visit to Hop Tree. As always, all opinions are 100% our own*
Oooh, that Cranberry Tart sounds great!
That is the most beautiful pretzel I have ever seen. All those Porters and brown ales sound so good.
