Medina Giant Eagle GetGo Cafe + Market Grand Opening (+ Giveaway!)
We were recently invited to attend the grand opening of the Giant Eagle GetGo Cafe + Market in Medina. Now, this may not seem like our normal event scene but we were intrigued. How many of you have been invited to the grand opening of a gas station? And have you been to a GetGo recently? Their beer selection is actually pretty solid. Often our friends will come over for a get together and apologize that they didn’t have time to stop at a local craft beer store, but they’ll still walk in with craft beer…from a GetGo. And we drive past this one billboard by our house every week that has a GetGo sandwich on it and it does NOT look like it comes from a gas station. So, we decided to head there with an open mind and see what this place had to offer.
The new 24 hour GetGo Cafe + Market is more than just a gas station. They’ve begun to integrate food and concepts from the upscale Giant Eagle Market Districts into the offerings at GetGo’s. Their menu has a wide range of made fresh to order foods including custom-made subs (with bread baked on-site), breakfast sandwiches and burgers. They also have a smoothie and espresso bar. These options are available any time, day or night. The GetGo aisles are stocked with traditional grocery store staples such as canned soups, cereals, milk, eggs, condiments, sweet and salty snacks and more. They also have a full source lottery, free Wi-Fi, free air for cars and a surcharge-free ATM.
When we arrived for the event, we met Chef Tom Seaman who is the product development chef for GetGo. Yup, they have a product development chef. He comes up with the amazing menu items like the Skipper Po Boy (with “go go sauce,” which is a play on Asian Yum Yum sauce served at Hibachi restaurants), the Captain sub with Redhook Ale beer battered cod, and the Ultimate Meatball Sub. He gave us a small tour and we started by checking out the fresh to-go quick and grab stations. If you’re in a hurry and want to grab a tasty and healthy snack or meal, GetGo has you covered. You can grab fresh salads, sandwiches, veggie or fruit packs, hummus, guac, soups, wraps, you name it! Gone are the days of just grabbing gross fried food that’s been sitting under a heat lamp, or a hot dog made from…you probably don’t want to know. Everything is made in house and with fresh ingredients.
If you have some time to stick around for a few minutes (four minutes), then you can come in and order on the easy to use kiosk. Chef Tom showed us how to use it and it’s super easy. You can customize all the menu items so you get the perfect meal. Their goal is to not have you wait around so they aim to not have you wait more than 4 minutes. We were also able to tour the kitchen which was super clean and efficient.
For drinks they had a huge coffee wall where you can choose from seasonal specials, light roast, medium roast or dark roast. So many options! Speaking of options, they have so many creamer options. Most places just have half and half or whole milk choose from. Not GetGo! They have milk, almond milk, half and half, soy, you name it. They don’t even have those weird dispensers, you pour from actual cartons in the cooler. You can also order a latte or espresso drink from the espresso bar. They also have a touch screen soda machine with endless options and you can mix up your sodas with different flavors. Or if you need something different on a hot day, you can get a Jolly Rancher slushie, a soda slushie or for a healthier option, order a smoothie from the smoothie bar.
We were able to try a few of their menu items including the Skipper Po Boy wrap, the Bavarian burger, tater tots, fried mac n cheese, and a berry smoothie. Fun fact about the smoothies: they will soon be going completely sugarless. They will be made with juices and purees and no added sugar or artificial flavors or sweeteners. We were pleasantly surprised by all of it.
We have to note, that in addition to all the delicious food and drinks GetGo provides, they also give back to the community. During the grand opening, they donated to the Medina High School women’s golf team and men’s and women’s cross-country team. Through March 7-11 they donated $1 for every sub purchased to Feeding Medina County. These were just the causes they told us about in March. Their goal is to get away from being “just a gas station” and become a part of the community. Well, they’re off to a good start!
Head to our Instagram and check out the giveaway for a $25 gift card going on now until March 21!
