Our New Favorite Local Product: Saddleberk Sausage

October was National Pork Month aka Porktober! While we would have loved to adequately honor one of our favorite meats, we were out of town for what felt like half the month! So instead, we’re celebrating now and wanted to share with you one of our new favorite sausage brands, Saddleberk. You may be thinking, do people really have favorite sausage brands? Yes, yes they certainly do. At least we do. And you will too once you try these delicious sausages. Let us make the case for these cased meats.

Saddleberk is a locally owned central Ohio farm. This means the transit time to your local grocery store is as quick as possible. We love that the meat isn’t being transported across the country while sitting in a cooler for days. Their motto is “local equals fresh.” Their pigs are raised in the best and safest environment possible, which results in a better product for the customers. Happy pigs means happy sausages.

Saddleberk’s all natural sausage is hand made and combines their signature Berkshire pork with fresh spices. The following recipes they created celebrate the tradition and innovation of sausage making, handed down by families for generations. Here’s just a sample of what they offer:

  • Blueberry Maple Breakfast
  • Fennel Garlic Italian
  • Spicy Chipotle Jalapeno
  • Sundried Tomato
  • Traditional German Bratwurst
  • Pineapple Teriyaki
  • Honey Chipotle
  • and the newest flavor, Pumpkin Spice!

The best part about Saddleberk is that it’s available at our favorite grocery store, Heinens! We think it’s the perfect addition to breakfast, brunch and dinner. We got creative and added Saddleberk to some of our favorite weekly meals. The Blueberry Maple pairs perfect with French Toast. The honey chipotle was the star in our breakfast hash which consisted of peppers, potatoes, onions, cheese and egg. Finally, our favorite fall/winter recipe is our Sausage and Dumpling dish we cook in our crockpot. We used the Traditional Bratwurst with dumplings and sauerkraut and ohmygod it was comfort food city.

All of these dishes would be perfect for a meal for one, but even better when shared with friends at your next Browns game or brunch party. Hailing from eastern European families, we feel we know our sausages; but don’t just take our word for it. Head to your local Heinens and discover which Saddleberk Sausage will be your new favorite!

***Disclosure: Saddleberk provided us with complimentary sausage in exchange for our honest review. As always, all opinions are 100% our own.***
